A new cool tool from Scholastic!

Welcome back to the new school year! I have a new cool tool for you to try out if you are looking for a book to read at a particular reading level. It's the Teacher Book Wizard from Scholastic. What's nice about this is that it finds books from several different publishers, not just Scholastic. Give it a whirl!

Webby Wednesday Computer Club

Hi to all media center fans and computer club afficionados. We have just completed a six week session of the Webby Wednesday Computer Club. Ms Dahl and Dr. Ballard had a ton of fun meeting with our intrepid group of club members to plan our web pages, take digital pictures and short videos and create a super duper Webby Wednesday Computer Club web page. The very first! Check it out here: Webby Wednesday Computer Club
We made a big effort to make sure that all links are good and what we have posted will be fun for the students and their families to see. Contact me if you have questions or concerns. Chris Dahl 651.653.2751. We hope that you enjoy the website!
Please sign my Guest Book if you have a chance (it's in the column on the left).
happy tech days to all of you,

Maud Hart Lovelace Award!

Results are now in as the students who read three or more of the twelve nominated books for the Maud Hart Lovelace Award have chosen their favorite book and cast their vote for that favorite title. In our building, the winner was Last Shot with 15 votes. Second place with 14 votes is Halfway to the Sky followed by the third place winner, Ruby Holler. An astonishing number of fourth and fifth grade students from Parkview and Centerpoint participated this year all because they read three or more of the MHL nominated books. 88 students were eligible to cast their vote along with students across Minnesota. The winning title will be announced on April 23rd.

Doing Good Together in the Media Center!

This is a photo of the pile of blankets that students assembled on Friday, November 30. The blankets were just one of the activities that students at Parkview and Centerpoint schools could do during the school day. Students and parent helpers watched a short video that highlighted the Linus Blanket Project, which provides blankets for children who are in need. Then they worked in teams to tie the blankets. When they were finished, they gathered to discuss and reflect on what they did. This was one of four activities that was organized for our school by many teachers along with the Doing Good Together organization.

World Book online:

Students have used a variety of reference materials in the media center already this year, including World Book ONLINE. If you have internet access, your child may use WorldBook ONLINE to do homework and research. It has all of the same wonderful print articles that their regular encyclopedia has and in addition there are sounds and videos for many of the articles. There are also recommended websites that will enrich their research even further.  Tons of cool, educational fun! Ask your media specialist, ms dahl, how to access it from home and she will provide you with the login id and the password.
